Chris Brown, Kathy Brown, Dusty Brown Articles about the Hawaii Murder

Notes on the Movie Viewing of A Matter of Justice
by Traciy Curry-Reyes

On the night that the movie aired for the first time, Christy and her grandmother Mary viewed the movie together in private. The movie A Matter of Justice was shown in two parts on NBC. The movie told the story of Mary Brown who sought justice for her son Marine Cpl. Chris Randall Brown. It traces his life from his time in the military to his death on September 2, 1982 in Hawaii, and the conviction of his wife Kathy Brown and her lover Rocky Jackson. At the time the movie aired, Chris Brown's daughter, baby Christy was a 13 year old student at Etowah Middle School. Mary Brown said the movie came to the attention of Hollywood when an attorney contacted her about making a movie. (though someone close to the case told me that Mary Brown actually pitched the idea and pushed for a movie to be made). Mary Brown was praised for her courage in seeing Dusty and Rocky prosecuted for Chris's death. She said that apart from his death, the whole ordeal of dealing with the Marine Corps was a nightmare. She wanted other moms to push forward with getting the help they need to find out about their loved ones' death despite the intimidation.

How heartbreaking it must be for Mary Brown to see her granddaughter involved in the same types of criminal activities as her mother. After she did her best to raise her to the best of her ability. I love the movie. It always makes me cry. I know how Mary Brown feels. I lost a 23-year old son to diabetes in 1995. Pain stays with you for life. But now that pain is doubled for her seeing her granddaughter in trouble with the law. I can understand Christy's wanting to see and meet her mother. I am an adopted person from bith. I am firmly convinced we inherit traits from our blood kin. I am nothing like the people who adopted me. I have spent my life trying to find out where I "fit". Sadly, this girl has turned out to be much like her mother. So sorry for Mary Brown. She has suffered a great deal in her life. I wish her happiness and peace for the remainder of her life.

How heartbreaking it must be for Mary Brown to see her granddaughter commit somewhat the same kinds of crimes her mother has. The movie is one of my favorites. Always makes me cry. Maybe its because I lost a 23-year old son to diabetes in 1995. I know the pain she felt and will always feel. And now her pain is compounded by her granddaughter's troubles with the law. I believe so much in inherited traits. I am an adopted person from birth. I was nothing like the people who adopted me and have spent my life trying to find out where I "fit". I can understand Christy's wanting to see her mom and her blood kin from this standpoint. I'm sorry for Mary two-fold. She has been through a lot. I wish her peace and happiness for the remainder of her life.

I too saw the movie and can relate to it. My mother left us while we were teenagers. There is nothing more heart breaking than losing a child.I have to say I believe Mrs. Brown had a vendetta against her granddaughter's mother and understand her hurt and anger, but when you bad mouth and try to keep a child/grandchild from having contact with their father/mother this will have grave consequences. The child may grow to resent the adult who keeps the child away from the parent. I feel the child has a right to know what the parent did but as they become an adult, they will want to find out for themselves about their own parent and not rely on someone else to tell them.Mrs. Brown did not always do what was right and defied the law at times which was not a good example and had mean spirit in her to get back at her daughter in law.The child maybe in trouble because of what she had to go through and what maybe she had to deal with.It is Mrs. Brown's responsibility now to get her help since she fight for custody!

I think Christy should be kept away from her mother. Her mother is a sociopath and these people dont change. Dusty Brown killed Christy's father and I dont see why she wants to meet her anyway since she had her grandmother, that ought to be enough.

What a lofty load of crap. The mpther of Christy is a selfish, self-centered narcissist. All she ever cared about is herself. Mrs. Brown was absolutely right to keep Christy away the mother who only saw Christy as a meal ticket.

Maybe Christy wanted to meet her mom for the purpose of confronting about why she took her father away from her. Personally, if I had been her I would have been more interested in having contact with the half siblings than the mother.

Dusty Brown got what she had coming her way. She should have stayed in prison for more than 7 years. But lucky she died of cancer not too long after her release from prison. She had check fruad and other charges also which should have violated her probation.

The grandmother did the right thing she has her closure with the animals who took her son's life. Raised her granddaughter that's the same as I would have done.

You sound crazy. That child was being abused and living in an unstable environment.

I just watched the movie for the first time; a very heartbreaking story. I went through similar with my biological mother. She is rip now and I pray everyday for God's mercy on us all, because we are all strangers passing through; and no one deserves to be murdered and treated unruly. May God be with us all

I really believe that she was so dumb to what was going on around her and we don't know the real truth ; we only have the sides of the story. I forgive her

why would you even post that?? you got some nerve blaming a mother for a so called vendetta!!! it was not a vendetta, it was a mothers instinct that embraced chris' mother & she knew his wife planned this & carried out that plan, purely because his mother was conscience enough to see what the marine corps refused to see!! where do you get off lady, stop commenting on these types of sites & cases, you are as far fetched & hair brained as every other person that woman fought to see her son get justice, his wife the justice her sorry self deserved & grand daughter that simply needed to be

she wants answers & she deserves them, maybe the only question needing asked is why chris' benefits meant more than her daughter
